Abstract: In recent years, it is demanded to the national university library to develop various service to the user based on the idea, the target and the plan of the parent organization. However, the library budget is now cutting down. So that the ability of the project and the budget acquisition is necessary for the library staff. In this thesis, I propose the method of voluntarily improving the ability from the site where the library staff after the corporatization of national universities is left and current state.

Leveraging the results of user survey: from the marketing perspective

Abstract: User surveys are conducted more often than before in many libraries these days. In analyzing those survey results, it is useful to apply the concept of marketing in order to make the most of the survey outcome. This paper will first pick up several user survey methods to point out and summarize the marketing concepts and tools that could be used in analysis and utilization of the library survey results. It will then describe how the survey results could contribute to library management and development or the improvement of library services by introducing the case in Information and Media Center for Science and Technology in Keio University where they created a new personal study area according to their survey result.

Mind maps as a thinking tool in practice

Abstract: Mind map is a thinking tool as well as a presentation tool for every business and education activity. In this article, I present examples of usage of mind mapping in three use cases - self-introduction, meeting minutes, brainstorming, and information system development - and explain how to utilize this method with its merits and caustions.

Regional alliances of university that uses library function

Abstract: Health Sciences University of Hokkaido Library has planned "Pharmacist and Nurse Education Program for medical information offer without regional differential" as one of community cooperation projects with the faculty of pharmaceutical sciences and the school of nursing and social services. This program was selected as one of the program of learning for adults by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan in 2008 and was started in June, 2009. This is a postgraduate education program and the core concept is activation of regional medicine. One of the objective is to improve pharmacist's and nurse's information literacy, and teach the knowledge and skill to get medical information, appraise it, and use it to patient education effectively. Another objective is to solve the problem of information disparity in Hokkaido.This program is on the basis of the result of the information needs investigation of the community medical workers.In this paper, the present condition of this program is described with the background of planning.
