特集「モバイル環境と情報」の編集にあたって
場所・時間を選ばずに情報にアクセスできる携帯端末の環境が出現し，より身近な情報へのアクセス・ツールとして急速に浸透してきている。
インターネットを介した機能が主体であるものの，従来の固定端末の利用とは異なる独自の文化が構築され，いわゆる 8おまけ7 的に小型携帯端末からの利用に対応するのではなく，その特性を生かしたサービス・技術の研究・開発も目にする機会が多くなってきたように思える。
今回の特集では，情報の収集，検索，管理といった面に特に焦点をあて，モバイル環境で既に始まっている，または発展がこれから期待されるサービス・技術の現状及び今後を紹介，解説いただき，こういったサービス・技術の現状を身近に知る機会としていただければ幸いである。

携帯電話に代表されるモバイルインターネット端末の発達に伴い，既存の情報コンテンツもそれらからのアクセスに対応する必要がある。しかし，既存の検索システムは基本的にPCからのアクセスを前提としているため，そのままでは携帯端末からは利用できない。あるいは表示自体は達成されていても，その可読性には問題がある場合が多い。したがって，携帯端末向けの表示を作成しなければいけないが，各表示デバイス毎に個別に作成しているのでは効率が悪い。本稿ではPC向けのコンテンツを携帯端末向けに変換する方法を概観するとともに，その際に考慮すべき可読性の問題についての概要を述べる。

Abstract : There are many methods to access the Internet. Therefore, legacy contents should be able to be displayed on those information terminals in readable form. But many of those contents displayed on mobile terminals are hard to understand or even not readable because 1) those contents are designed to display on PC's large display, and 2) small screen of mobile terminals. In order to display those contents on mobile terminals, those contents should be rebuilt or converted into readable form. But it is inefficient to rebuild those contents by hand for information terminals separately. In this paper, we survey how Internet contents for PCs are automatically converted into readable contents for mobile terminals.

ユビキタス時代の幕が開き始め，「何時でも，誰でも，何処でも」 ITが使える環境になってきた。一つのモデルとして図書館でのRFID活用が進み始めようとしている。システムを開発してきた視点からIT図書館を紹介する。ここにきて，電波法の規制緩和，ローコストタグの登場，運用ノウハウの蓄積，地域ネットワークの進展等の条件が図書館でのRFIDを推進する上でフォローへの風となってきた。事例を紹介しつつ，最新ITを使った新たな図書館像への期待と今後の見通しについて触れた。

Abstract : RFID (Radio Frequency Identification system) will be used for the libraries in the near future. Revision of the Radio Law, Decreasing the cost of the RFID tags, building up experiences of the system operations, the progress of the regional network are pushing ahead to use the RFID in the libraries. With introducing case example, I mentioned the expectation of future of the libraries which use the advanced technology and the forecast of it.

インターネットが急激に普及する中で，国内では携帯電話によるインターネット利用者が急増している。携帯電話は通信費が高いものの，どこでも膨大なWeb資源にアクセスできる利点を活かして教育分野でも活用が期待される。利用者が個別に調べ学習ができるほかに，教室での講義などにも利用可能である。本稿では携帯電話向けに公開されている自然科学分野のページをいくつか取り上げ，その可能性を述べる。また，筆者らが公開している化学関連ページについても触れ，画像やインタラクティブなコンテンツの重要性に言及する。

Abstract : The Internet is getting much more popular nowadays, and the number of users by cellular phones is increasing rapidly in Japan. Although it costs much to use cellular phones, users can access a great deal of Web resources anywhere, therefore we expect some practical uses in the field of education. A user can learn independently and also can use it for lectures in the classroom. In this paper, some Web pages of natural science, field are introduced. The author and joint researcher have developed Web pages containing images and interactive contents for the chemical education.

Abstract : Regarding communication methods within mobile communications, as well as “the second growth", the shift from mainly “voice" communications to Internet based communications with data communications at the heart, the expansion of new business areas such as “information-sending businesses" and “telematic businesses" can be expected through further research into smoother Internet access. Together with this, in order to offer the customers further value, NTT DoCoMo intends to continue to challenge to incorporate the latest technology, and to swiftly offer products that are suited to customer needs.
This text will introduce the present situation and the future direction of NTT DoCoMo's mobile multimedia services.

インターネットは，学校図書館において，レファレンス・サービスの可能性を大きく広げるツールになりうる。ただし，それを使いこなすには，検索システムの仕組みを理解し，検索の思考法を身に付けなければならない。加えて，インターネット上の情報は必ずしもその質が保障されていないため，丁寧な情報の評価が不可欠である。また，学校図書館においては，レファレンス・サービスへのインターネット上の情報の活用だけではなく，児童・生徒らに情報活用能力の育成の中で検索を指導することも重要である。その検索能力育成の取り組みにおいては，検索の思考法（特に，準備過程の思考法）の指導が強調されるべきである。

Abstract : The Internet may be a tool that greatly expands the possibility for reference service in school libraries. However, to use the Internet, it is essential to understand the system of information retrieval and also to learn this new way of thinking about information retrieval. In addition, since the quality of information on the Internet is not necessarily guaranteed, careful evaluation of information is essential. School libraries today are using information on the Internet not only for reference service, so it is also very important to educate students about information retrieval in the process of providing information literacy instruction. In educating students about information retrieval, instructors should stress the way of thinking about information retrieval, especially the preparatory stage.
