Abstract:"Copy & copyright mailing list (Copy & Copyright ML)" in which the author is participating is described as one case with "The crossroads of values" experiencing. It is not an object where the reproduction right is admitted by Article 31 in the enterprise of the special library Copyright Law. The ML is this community of online of which the subject the copy and is the copyright by the engaging people at a special library in enterprises. It acts actively and radically as a place for the information exchange and the opinion exchange. Participation is recommended as a place for the information exchange and the opinion exchange. Speed and high quality of the information circulation are enumerated. The possibility that an off-line activity serves an important function to the operating policy is pointed out.

Abstract:The continuous knowledge acquisition is always demanded from a librarian of the field of biomedical information and the expert. Those information can receive through Internet. However, information sharing is strengthened more by an informal network through a person and a person.
You can realize it in held Meeting on Medical Information Services every year. It surpassed kinds of libraries with a slogan of "Learning from each other!", and it has been made by will of a participant individual. It merely carries a role as a place of interchange for a biomedical information expert not a place publishing the results of research. This report focuses about a personnel exchange in the meeting.

Abstract:Healthcare information 'Bookshelf' Project (HIBOP), launched in 2004, has been developing a new way of providing healthcare/medical information to patients and general public. HIBOP has made a list of "Tobyo-ki" (books in which patient narratives are described by patients themselves and/or their caregivers) by the help of Mr. Hoshino of Paramedica, purchased most of listed books and provided some of them to several public/hospital/university libraries free of charge. HIBOP has also been contributing to make a new website "Tobyo-ki Library" which was developed by Dr. Takano of National Institute of Informatics. Librarians, researchers, health professionals, publishers and many other people are involved in HIBOP and such a diversity of members makes the activity of HIBOP more energetic and delightful.

TP & D Forum (Technical Processing & Documentation Forum)

Abstract:The purpose of the TP & D Forum (Technical Processing & Documentation Forum) is, firstly, to present the results of one's study in the fields of library classification, indexing, information retrieval, documentation, cataloguing and so on, with a active and frank discussion. The second is getting better acquainted with each other that make a lively exchange of ideas. Since 1991 the Forum has been held every year. The concept of the Forum is a valuable feature in the Japanese library field. In addition, the possibility of growing up as a continuous research group in the future is expected as for the Forum.

Participating start of process of "Kinki Regional Academic Libraries Initiative" [KIRALI]: An interaction beyond the installation mode of universities

Abstract:In June 2005, a co-operative organization was established all around the Kinki District among National, Municipal and Private university libraries beyond their installation mode. The name is "Kinki Regional Academic Libraries Initiative". We call it 'KIRALI' in short. This organization started its effort with setting up two specialized committees under the governing board. We authors have been deeply involved with the expansion of the program of beginning library-staff training- the skill development specialized committee takes charge- and publicity of the structure- the publicity explanatory committee takes charge-. We authors review our past operations and describe future landscapes of 'KIRALI'.

The HUMI Project's photographing method of rare books: Part 1

Abstract:The HUMI Project, Keio University, started researches on digitization of rare books with the Gutenberg Bible as a target of digitization. Through a few trials and errors, especially in the selection of image acquisition method and the development of the special equipment, they have established their original photographing method of rare books. The HUMI Project's photographing method of rare books will be explained in the present and the next articles. Here in the first of the two, the evolution of the photographing method which led to the development of a special book cradle will be outlined. An explanation will be given on the photographing method of producing digital facsimiles from bound books, using the special book cradle and custom-made camera-support devised by the HUMI Project. This will be accompanied by a description of the assembling of the photographing set and the photographing process.
