The remove of the materials of Okayama Prefectural Library

Fumitaka OMURA
Okayama Prefectural Library,
2-6-30, Marunouchi, Okayama City, 700-0823 JAPAN

Abstract : Okayama Prefectural Library has changed a lot in its scale and organization. As the previous library was small, it couldn't store all the materials, and they were stored in several other buildings. The hardest work was the planning of shelving, because we had to bring together materials from different storage sites. And during the removal, various problems occurred, and I was often forced to change the plan. We could accomplish the removal on schedule, despite several problems, for example, the organization of the transfer of all materials.

Library Architecture Award of Japan Library Association ―Rebuilding and extension of a library building

Hitoshi ISHIMARU
Hiroshima Shudo University Library,
1-1-1, Ozukahigashi Asaminamiku, Hiroshima 731-3195 JAPAN

Abstract : Hiroshima Shudo University (HSU) Library has received the Library Architecture Award of Japan Library Association. This is both for its excellent design and for the exceptionally user-friendly service of the library. I am very grateful and proud that our efforts to provide a better library service have been recognized. The new library was constructed through the rebuilding of the former library building and through additional new construction. I would be glad to offer any information or advice to fellow librarians who plan to rebuild or extend their own libraries. In planning the new library, the design team made full use of librarians' suggestions for “future new library construction and service". This, I believe, was the reason that HSU Library was considered worthy to receive the Library Architecture Award. HSU Library is open to the public. After opening the library, there has been a seven-fold increase in members of the general public making use of our library. We would like to continue to manage HSU Library in a manners worthy of the Award.
