General review : Search for medical science and drug information

 Abstract : Pharmaceutical companies have the responsibility of not only supplying pharmaceutical products to doctors and patients, but also providing them with the information on their efficacy, safety and quality. Such information on proper use of pharmaceuticals is not restricted to those accumulated during the stage of research and development, and is always renewed by the addition of new information collected in cooperation with medical institutes after the marketing, taking into consideration all of the necessary domestic and overseas information on the use of the pharmaceuticals. It is also indispensable in the investigation of pharmaceuticals to collect the information on their competitive products, diseases which are targets of the medicinal treatment and the medical science. The useful and typical information resources for medical and pharmaceutical sciences are introduced in this report. In addition, the efficient method of the information retrieval and the points to be paid attention to are also described.

UMIN information services for collection of medical and drug-related information from academic societies and its provision to medical professionals

 Abstract : University hospital Medical Information Network (UMIN) is a large public network information center for medicine, funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, Sports, and Technology (MEXT). UMIN collects various medical and drug-related information from academic societies and provides it to medical professionals. Examples of such systems are AC (Academic Societies and Meetings Database), ELBIS (Electronic Library for Biomedical Sciences), OASIS (member-only homepage hosting service), etc. The common characteristics of these services are low cost and efficient operation with minimal human interventions of UMIN staff and positive cooperation of medical academic societies.

 Abstract : The Organization for Pharmaceutical Safety and Research (OPSR) was established as a Japanese semi-governmental organization authorized by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW). In order to promote the safe use of ethical drugs, we provide ethical drug information accurately and rapidly for the medical professionals and the nations, via the Internet.   In the web site, you can get various kinds pharmaceutical information, such as information on package inserts, adverse drug reaction, safety (both emergency and others), new drugs and recalls presented by MHLW and pharmaceutical companies. We expect the improvement of more user-friendly system and contents in the near future.

 Abstract : It introduced the process for production, writing, data collection of medical treatment and medical supply relation in professional journal “The Pharmaceuticals daily", and it describes the ideal way of medical treatment and drug information. The information obtained in every day has become an enormous quantity without limiting to medical treatment and medical supply. It is the most important to choose what from flooding information, and it must comprehensibly offer it. But, it is important to accurately grasp “the reader needs" is what in the time. The information changes every moment. Therefore, it needs the ability of discerning past, present and future to the editor. Through the offer of information, the sense of mission of widely contributing to the QOL improvement of nation and patient is our business backbone.

 Abstract : Asunoshinyaku is a database that covers investigational drugs worldwide. It is compiled from a wide range of sources such as various journals, newspapers, studies published at national and international conferences, websites direct communication with pharmaceutical companies.   Accuracy and news value of information is our priority. It is essential to carry out extensive search to obtain accurate information. All the information is examined carefully, and several documents are looked at to confirm the reliabilty of every piece of information before it is included to the database. We intend to provide quality information as quickly as possible.
