Abstract : The aim of an academic library is to provide scholarly documents necessary to researchers. In order to achieve this, such libraries ought to grasp in a concrete way the degree to which they can supply such academic documents and should also try to improve their capacity for doing so. The rate of the document supply capacity here is the rate of the library's possession of document citations. We calculated the document supply capacity rate on the basis of 4,390 citations from 197 essays that were written by University of Tsukuba faculty members and are contained in the SCI (Science Citation Index). The results clearly showed that the University of Tsukuba Library holds 75.0% of the cited documents. The results, moreover, tell us that differences in researchers' usage of the information can be seen in the supply capacity rate.
