(University of Library and Information Science (1-2 Kasuga, Tsukuba-shi,Ibaraki 305-8550))

Abstract : This article deals with electronic commerce, especially business-to-consumer type e-commerce. As business-to-consumer type e-commerce resembles traditional commerce by mail order, bargaining by e-mail tends to be regulated by the same law. But some new experiments suitable for e-mail trades on the Web are now working.
Among B-to-C electronic commerce formulas, there are ones which deserve to be business-method-patented. And software, databases, and digital contents could be protected by copyright law and anti-unfair competition law. Recently, in the United States, UCITA, a draft model state law, was prepared. It is also discussed in this paper.
