Abstract : Digital preservation raises new challenges and requires us to develop a new concept of preservation. In preserving digital publications, there are three levels of preservation which we must consider : preserving recording media ; preserving retrieval and playback technologies ; preserving intellectual content. Digital archives, ultimately responsible for the long-term preservation of digital publications, must develop best practices for each stage of the life cycle of digital publications : creation, selection, acquisition and storage, cataloging and identification, preservation, and access. It is important for libraries, archives, and other related institutions to cooperate in developing the standard of these best practices.
